Hair extensions are every girl's secret toy. Girls like something fun, and playful. Every lady out there wants to add color; and investing in a great hair extension is a good start. Fortunately, you can still maintain your natural hair color and quality by adding a dye to your extensions. These will brighten your look by adding any color highlight of your choice.

How to Dye Your Hair Extensions
Are you tired of the same color? Do you dislike your extension color = CHANGE IT
STEP 1: Gather Supplies
Select a color from a professional hair color and developer line. A boxed color from a drugstore doesn't give you the option to choose the developer that you will use on your hair extensions, and that's what you want. A 10-volume developer or a demi-permanent color is best. You can use 20-volume developer if necessary, but avoid 30- and 40-volume developers as they will damage your hair extensions if you're not careful.
After you've purchased your color and developer, gather a few more supplies:
- Bowl and Brush
- Coloring gloves
- Tin foil
- Plastic wrap
- Wide toothed-comb
- Towel
STEP 2: MIX THE FORMULA
First, put on the disposable gloves. Permanent hair color stains everything including body surfaces. Secondly, squeeze the contents of the color cream tube into the applicator bottle and shake vigorously to mix the two ingredients. Shake well to be sure they combine for a smooth, even-colored solution.
STEP 3: APPLY COLOR TO YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS
Make sure the extensions are free from tangles before applying the mixture. Then, working with each, individual extension, saturate the hair with the formula.
- Start from the ‘root’ and work your way down making sure you saturate each strand. Remember,
- Apply the solution to one side of the extension and then flip it over and apply on the other side as well.
- Work the color onto the hair with your fingers. This is where the foil/plastic comes in.
- Lay the hair on the foil/plastic (and not on a towel as I’ve shown it here) because a towel will absorb the mixture.
STEP 4: PROCESS THE COLOR ON THE EXTENSIONS
Continue working with each piece until all your clip-in extensions are saturated with the color mixture. Let the color work for 30 minutes before rinsing.
STEP 5: RINSE AND CONDITION
While still wearing the protective gloves, rinse the mixture out of the hair extensions with warm water. Be sure to rinse until the water runs clear but be careful not to over soak the extensions. You don’t want to loosen the bonds that hold the extensions together.
- After the water runs clear, apply the Color Conditioning Treatment, let that sit for two minutes.
- Finally, rinse out the conditioning treatment and then detangle the hair.
- Dry the hair extensions the way you normally would, air or heat, but if you use a blow dryer, use it on a low setting and remember to apply a heat protectant first.
